Publish a book

Want to publish a book? Here are the most common questions!

  • Publishing books with Le Livre en papier (publier-un-livre.com) is free because each book is sold before being printed on demand, starting from a single copy.

There is therefore no mass production, nor unsold stock to clear or destroy.

  • Le Livre en papier is open to anyone or association wishing to publish a book for free, provided they own all rights to the content (see terms and conditions).

This means anyone can publish their stories on a professional platform without spending a euro, or a cultural association can publish an exhibition catalog without waiting for a subsidy, etc.

Le Livre en papier allows any individual, company, or association to publish a book for free under professional conditions and without investment.

  • All books of public interest are eligible, provided they comply with current laws (for example, racist content will not be tolerated). So, your Aunt Zoé’s latest holiday photo album is not eligible, but the story you wrote on the beach could be...

In any case, make sure to proofread carefully to eliminate all typos, spelling, syntax, and grammar mistakes. Have your work proofread by friends and/or a professional. A well-written and corrected book will show your seriousness to readers and will more easily receive positive feedback.

To help you, Le Livre en papier offers an optional (paid) proofreading/revision service in collaboration with professional and experienced authors and editors. You can find more information about our proofreading offer on the "Services" page.

  • The paper used for books published by Le Livre en papier has been carefully selected to meet our strict criteria for reading comfort, tactile feel, and environmental respect.

That’s why we chose an ecological, cream-colored, bulky edition paper for printing novels and other black-and-white books. This paper offers maximum reading comfort thanks to its color, which is less tiring for the eyes than white paper. Its unique feel comes from its bulk, combining lightness with good opacity.

Color books use a very white ecological paper that provides excellent color rendering.

The cover paper is the same for all our books: an ecological white cardboard, coated on the outside for better color rendering and uncoated on the inside for superior glue adhesion.

  • When your file is ready (proofread, corrected, and formatted), you can submit your publication request by filling out the form on the "Publish a book" page.
Is your file not ready yet? Make sure to follow these steps.

  • To calculate the thickness of your book’s spine, you can use the following formulas:
    For black and white books:
    (Number of pages x 0.06) + 1 = thickness in millimeters (mm)
    For color books (sewn):
    (Number of pages x 0.07) + 1 = thickness in millimeters (mm)

  • Yes. Your bank details (IBAN and BIC) are required so we can pay you the royalties from your book sales.

  • When you send us your publication request, your book enters the queue of books to be published soon. Our team will then check your files to ensure they are technically ready for printing. There are two possibilities:

If the files are directly usable (or if we can make the necessary minor adjustments), your book is published directly. The average time is 5 working days. You will receive an email informing you of your book’s publication. In case of pre-order, you will also receive by email the order form with payment information.

If the files require technical corrections (format error, pixelated images, etc.), we will contact you by email to inform you of the changes needed to make the files usable. You will then be invited to make the necessary corrections and send us the files via Swisstransfer.com.

In both cases, you will be informed by email (within 5 working days on average), either of your book’s publication or of the technical corrections to be made. So keep a close eye on your inbox. For safety, also check your spam folder regularly.

  • In Belgium, you must declare all income received, including that from the sale of your books sold online by Le Livre en Papier.
To do this, enter the amount of royalties received (total amounts paid by Le Livre en Papier to your bank account during the relevant fiscal year) in box 1200 (miscellaneous income) of your annual tax return.
If the annual amount exceeds €250: You will receive a 281.50 tax form from us. This form is also sent by us to the Belgian tax authorities. The amount indicated, corresponding to your royalties, must be reported in your return under code 1200.
If the annual amount is less than €250: No 281.50 tax form will be issued, but you must still declare the amount received, corresponding to your royalties, in box 1200.
For any further or specific questions, we recommend consulting a tax advisor.
